AmaAmbush

amaAmbush was started in 2002 by BMus graduate, Ross Johnson. They have always focused on giving lively, energetic performances. The group has over 600 gigs to their credit, having performed for numerous corporate clients and a host of private clients. The group recently performed to a capacity crowd at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, where they launched their CD and received a standing ovation. The group has received widespread media coverage, with interviews being aired on Cape Talk, Fine Music Radio, CCFM and UCT Radio.

amaAmbush has toured Argentina and Germany and has presented workshops on the African Marimba in Malaysia. In 2006, they came first at the National Marimba Festival, held in Johannesburg.

The group is an ideal addition to an event. They are able to provide quiet background atmospheric music or an energetic feature performance. Their repertoire ranges from popular African tunes such as Miriam Makebas’ Click Song and Pata Pata to traditional material such as Amapondos’ 9:15 and Uzuko Inyama. amaAmbush have their own compositions which are fast gaining popularity such as No More Tears and Kyles’ Song.

Tucan Tucan

Tucan Tucan is an established group in the Cape Town circuit, drawing large audiences at venues as diverse as the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts to Marimba Restaurant at the CTICC. Not only are it's gigs diverse, but you will find that members originate from Mozambique, Norway, Argentina, Johannesburg and, of course, Cape Town.
This African-Latin band performs original music composed and arranged by bandleader, renowned percussionist and drummer, Frank Paco. Their music combines Latino rhythms and African grooves with lyrics in Spanish, Portuguese, English, Sesotho, Xhosa, Zulu and Shangaan.

Mbekweni Black Bafanas
Mbekweni Black Bafanas
Mbekweni Black Bafanas hail from Mbekweni Township, Paarl and has been together since 1997. Oomavuthengatshi, as its audience popularly knows the group, perform regularly for local and international functions and they continue to wow the audience with their magical voices wherever they perform. Their music style is called Isicathamiya – an African Acapella form of vocal music.
Some of the Black Bafanas featured performances include a charity event organized by the Duke of Wellington in Paarl, an overseas performance in Copenhagen, Denmark as well as as surprise for the Prince of Monaco Albert II whereby they sang the Monaco National Anthem in French. The group has performed for numerous international events and has shared the stage with world acclaimed artists such as Freshly Ground & Chor’Africa from France. The Black Bafanas have recorded two albums, Mandenze Indumiso 1999 and Wenza Ngabom. Recently the group completed studio recordings for two international films.
